Scandinavian Americana: Sofia Talvik, May 6 at 7 p.m., Olathe Indian Creek Library. Sofia Talvik grew up Sweden, and her music reflects her Scandinavian heritage. Yet her travels to the US have inflected her songs with an Americana flavor.
Nordic siren Sofia Talvik grew up in Sweden, but her travels in the U.S., including a 16-month, 37-state tour, have colored her music with an Americana/Folk flavor. Her 2015 album, "Big Sky Country," was labeled the fourth best Americana album of the year by U.K newspaper, "The Telepgraph." Sofia was the first Swedish woman to appear at Lollapalooza in 2008. She was invited to SXSW three times and showcased at the Folk Alliance International conference. For her current tour, she has scheduled performances in Europe, New Zealand and the U.S.
A CD Baby review of her 2010 release, "Florida," inspired by a few hot months in the Sunshine State, said, "It’s not often that an album takes your breath away, and I hate to sound hyperbolic, but 'Florida' actually has several 'Oh my God!' moments of sheer beauty.”
