African American Musical Heritage Series
Presented by Missouri State Parks at Bruce R. Watkins Cultural Heritage Center
Missouri State Parks in partnership with Missouri Humanities will host three events as part of the African American Musical Heritage Series at the Bruce R. Watkins Cultural Heritage Center, 3700 Blue Parkway, Kansas City MO.
These events will take place at the Bruce R. Watkins Cultural Heritage Center located at 3700 Blue Parkway, Kansas City, Mo.
- Friday, Feb. 15 at 6pm - "The Jazz Storytellers" - The program introduces kids to the sounds and styles of jazz, America’s art form! JAZZ Storytelling features an internationally renowned cast including vocalist Lisa Henry, storyteller Brother John, bassist Tyrone Clark, and drummer Mike Warren.
- Friday, Feb. 22 at 6pm - "A Joyful Noise Community Choir" - with special guests: Rev. Samuel Lattimore as MC and C3RIO, In the Midst, Marquita Baynham, The Pilgram Outlets, and The Kids of Rock. - The choir is a 20-voice ensemble that performs a well-rounded selection of gospel music from the traditional, contemporary and African-American spiritual vein. The members have been performing since 1993. They belong to various denominations which lends itself to an inclusive selection of songs.
- Friday, March 1 at 6pm - "Traditional Music Society" - The Traditional Music Society is an arts-in-education organization devoted to the development of community cohesiveness through the study of music and dance from many world cultures, particularly West Africa, Brazil, Central America, and the Caribbean.
At intermission, Niecie's Restaurant will have food available for purchase.
