Vocalists Sarah Tannehill Anderson and Raymond Feener will join Musica Sacra Orchestra and Chorus for a performance of Mozart’s “Requiem” at 7 p.m. Sunday, April 28, in Rockhurst University’s Arrupe Hall Auditorium.
"Requiem in D Minor" is considered one of the most profound sacred works for chorus and orchestra as well as one of the most popular.
Anderson, a soprano, has performed with the Opera Company of Philadelphia, Opera Omaha, the Chicago Symphony, the Kansas City Symphony, Kansas City Chamber Orchestra, the Bach Aria Soloists, Musica Sacra and others. Feener, a baritone and the chair of the University of Missouri Kansas City Conservatory of Music and Dance's vocal studies division, has performed in Italy, Bulgaria and the United States.
Mozart's "Requiem" remains one of the world's most popular works for chorus, vocal soloists, and orchestra. Even the orchestration adds to the unique flavor of the music — rather than scoring the winds with the traditional flutes and oboes, Mozart chose basset horns, which add a darker and more somber color. The soloists and ensemble will perform Mozart's "Regina Coeli," one of three settings of the text produced by Mozart, the work was composed in 1779 for the Salzburg Cathedral.
Tickets are $22 for adults and $12 for seniors and students and are available through the Central Ticket Office, online at tickets.cto.umkc.edu or at the performance.
