FREE | KC Zine Con #5 | Sat, Aug 31 from 11am – 6pm | Pierson Auditorium at UMKC | A celebration of DIY publishing and community, the FREE annual festival features over 100 artists, most of them locals.

Founded in 2014 by the Kansas City Zine Collective, KC Zine Con is a one-day event held annually in Midtown Kansas City, Missouri, where participants exhibit, sell, and trade their independently published zines, comix, books, newspapers, anthologies, tracts, pamphlets, and DIY radical readables of many forms. Zines are self-published DIY publications, typically made using a copy machine.

The festival is free to attend, and the public is welcome to come and explore the exhibitor’s tables, chat with the incredible artists, and attend workshops, lectures, and panels. You’ll leave with a smile on your face and a bag full of zines to read and enjoy!

Ensuring that KC Zine Con is an accessible event is our priority: that’s why we’ve chosen Pierson Auditorium at UMKC as our location. It is centrally located in Midtown Kansas City and accessible to people with a variety of needs.

KC Zine Con is wheelchair accessible. There are ADA Accessible parking spaces available at the Student Success Center that serve Pierson Auditorium, as well as Swinney Recreation Center. The Student Success Center/Pierson Auditorium is wheelchair accessible via the north/east entrance. There are no stairs within Pierson Auditorium and it is on flat ground. There are stairs and ramps leading to Pierson from the parking lot. If you would like to access Level 1 of the Student Success Center (for the cafeteria, ATM, vending machines or lactation room), access is available via stairs and elevators.

KC Zine Con is accessible by public transit. If you are coming from the North (South of the River), take the 55 to the 51st/Cherry St. stop, then head West towards the library. The Auditorium will be on your left, just South of the library. If you are coming from the North (North of the River), we recommend taking the 201, then transfer to the 55 at 3rd and Grand. If you are coming from the South, take the Main Street Max to the Brookside/51st Street Stop, then walk East across campus. The Auditorium is an approximately 10-minute walk from this stop.

KC Zine Con is accessible by bicycle: a bike rack is located directly outside the south entrance lobby (where Zine Con tabler-check in is). There is also a rack on the west side of the south entrance.

KC Zine Con will have free parking for cars and bicycles the day of the event.

Bathrooms with and without urinals are located outside the South Entrance, in the lobby. An additional gender-neutral bathroom is located on Level 1 of the Student Success Center, around the corner from the stairs and elevators.

A private lactation room is located on Level 1, Room 114, next to the gender-neutral bathroom.

KC Zine Con is a scent-aware, smoke-free space. Please refrain from wearing fragrances the day of the event to make our space more accessible for those with Multiple Chemical Sensitivities (click here to learn more about MCS). No vaping or smoking is allowed inside KC Zine Con. Additionally, we will have scent-free soap available in all restrooms.
