Kansas City Baroque presents Concert II: The Arts as Royal Rhetoric: Queen Christina of Sweden and Queen Anne | Fri, July 26 at 7:30 pm | Village Presbyterian Church in Kansas City, MO
Our three-concert summer series celebrates women in all aspects of musical creation, performance, and experience by delving into how women were influential as patrons, how women historically seized the spotlight as performers (both as singers and instrumentalists), and how women made strides in the still-male dominated world of music composition.
In our second concert of the 2019 summer series, we explore how women supported music financially during the early modern era. Our concert will feature recognizable repertoire by well-known composers, such as Arcangelo Corelli, Henry Purcell, Alessandro Scarlatti, and George Frideric Handel. KC Baroque will contextualize these famous composers by discussing the powerful women, such as Queen Christina of Sweden and Queen Anne of England, who supported their careers, often providing them with the necessary opportunities to achieve success in the business of music.
