FREE | Daniela Failla “Departures” | May 9-31, 2019 | Bunker Center for the Arts | Art Exhibition
Daniela Failla wears many hats: Painter, photographer, graphic designer, sculptor, writer, dancer and curator. Our April exhibition of Failla’s two- and three-dimensional work explores subjects both personal and broad, at times, both simultaneously.
“Departures” is composed of a variety of media demonstrating Failla’s insatiable hunger to explore new territories and media in her art. This exhibition spans dry media, acrylics, oils, and encaustics. Two-dimensional pieces of both representational still life and narrative works are accompanied by sculpture and installations. This broad exploration is certain to pull the viewer in and captivate them as they journey through Failla’s vision.
This exhibition will be available to the public through the month of May. Opening reception is May 3rd. Gallery hours are Thursday through Saturday 12 – 6 p.m. and by appointment 816.816.8350. We also encourage a visit to Daniela's studio at the Bunker Center to meet the artist and view her work.

Daniela Failla has brought one of the most engaging shows this curator has ever seen. A truly great story mixes both comedy and tragedy: each element enhanced by its opposite. Failla accomplishes this feat by juxtaposing two installations in our south east galleries. One gallery will leave you faced with a painful dramatic interpretation of our collective shame as nature's destructors. The adjoining room takes you by the hand and returns you to the innocence of childhood with an adult-sized recreation of an interactive icon of our generation. Both are brilliant. Both are reliant on each other, yet completely independent. Both are made of recycled materials. Both are fresh and new. That's only half the show. The paintings filling other two galleries stand as a testament to Failla's life and discipline.
