Reading As Publishing - No. 2

Presented by Charlotte Street at Unknown

“Books need to circulate to have an impact by being read.” — Eva Weinmayr, Library Underground — A Reading List for a Coming Community

In essence, Reading as Publishing: Access to Books is a participatory publishing workshop, during which Capsule will be transformed into a temporary library and reading room. The library will feature printed facsimiles of complete and partial publications that were listed and/or reviewed in issues of the The Whole Earth Catalog. Visitors will be invited to read the materials in the space at their leisure and mark-up the facsimiles with written notes, annotations, and other edits, highlighting excerpts of the materials that they find interesting, notable, or shareable. A librarian will document their excerpts and upload them to a website which will display them as a stream. This website will be updated in realtime, publicly accessible, and on view in the library. Later, the compiled excerpts will be published as a print-on-demand book.

Participants are welcome to come to this free show that is all ages and open to the public. The event takes place at Capsule, which is the performing arts space at 1664 Broadway Blvd. Street parking is available along 17th street, Washington Street, and in the gravel parking lot behind the building.
