KCFAA Author Series

Presented by Kansas City Friends of Alvin Ailey at Unity Temple on the Plaza

Kansas City Friends of Alvin Ailey (KCFAA) is proud to partner with Rainy Day Books to welcome New York Times Best Selling Author, Michael Arceneaux, to its Author Series event Thursday, August 22.

A Conversation with Michael Arceneaux will be facilitated by Rainy Day Books Owner Vivien Jennings.  “Through his candor and wit, Arceneaux unapologetically addresses race, sexuality, and religion, through the lens of marginalization. His thoughts on life as a black gay man, and how his Catholic upbringing and Howard University education have helped him, give voice to an often-silenced community.”

In his latest book, “I Can’t Date Jesus: Love, Sex, Family, Race and Other Reasons I’ve Put My Faith in Beyonce’,” Arceneaux writes about coming out to his mother; growing up in Houston, Texas; being approached for the priesthood; his obstacles in embracing intimacy that occasionally led to unfortunate fights with fire ants and maybe fleas; and the persistent challenges of young people who feel marginalized and denied the chance to pursue their dreams.
