Lisa Congdon Finding Your Voice: Uncovering the Holy Grail

Lisa Congdon Finding Your Voice: Uncovering the Holy Grail

Presented by Kansas City Art Institute at Epperson Auditorium at KCAI

To Illustrator and Author Lisa Congdon, the process of finding your creative voice is akin to uncovering your own superpower. Your artistic voice is what sets you apart, and, ultimately, what makes your work interesting, distinctive, worthy of discourse, and desired by others. No matter your medium or genre, having your own voice as a creative is the holy grail. And yet, it is a topic we rarely discuss. Join Congdon, author of Find Your Artistic Voice: The Essential Guide to Working Your Creative Magic, as she unravels the mysteries and delights of the process of finding your voice, including what it means to have an artistic voice and why having one matters, how to navigate influence, and practices that can accelerate the process of finding and refining your voice.

Congdon is best known for her bold and colorful drawings and hand lettering. She works for clients around the world including Comme des Garçons, Hansen Textiles, Crate and Barrel, Facebook, MoMA, REI, and Harvard University among many others. She is the author of eight books, including the starving-artist-myth-smashing Art Inc: The Essential Guide to Building Your Career as an Artist and her latest book Find Your Artistic Voice: The Essential Guide to Working Your Creative Magic (August 2019).  She was named one of 40 Women Over 40 to Watch in 2015 and she is featured in the 2017 book, 200 Women Who Will Change the Way you See the World. She lives and works in Portland, Oregon.
