Jerry Moon - Monoliths

Jerry Moon - Monoliths

Presented by The Rice Gallery of Fine Art at The Rice Gallery of Fine Art

The Rice Gallery of Fine Art is proud to announce our fall feature show opening Friday, October 18, 2019. This long awaited exhibition will feature Jerry Moon’s all new MONOLITH series, an exploration of abstract form and color. Each painting has been meticulously sketched, color diagrammed, and methodically painted into vivid compositions of carefully crafted layers.

Jerry Moon is both a renowned landscape painter and an accomplished abstract artist from the Kansas City area. His extensive body of work offers a cerebral examination of the world around us. His paintings often challenge the viewer’s preconceived notions of nature, beauty, color, space, and time.

His abstract Monoliths are an attempt to encapsulate the passage of time. The sheer number of visible marks in each painting readily depicts the artist’s commitment to time itself. Each patient layer and carefully chosen color combination encourages the viewer to linger and ruminate on time's relativity to themselves and the world around them.

Inspired by the Japanese technique of Shou Sugi Ban, Jerry hand chars his custom made frames into a delicately blackened wood border for each painting as a finishing touch.

The show will feature all new works by Jerry Moon, Seth Smith, & friends!  The paintings will be on display at The Rice Gallery of Fine Art in Overland Park, Kansas through the end of November 2019.
