USkKC Saturday Sketch Out

Location: Crown Center at 2450 Grand Blvd, Kansas City, Missouri 64108
Time: 10:00 am – 12:30 pm

Meet up location:  10:00 am at seating area outside of Pen Palace (level 1, store #111 on the Crown Center location map) and back again at 12:30 pm to look at sketches, trade art cards, and take photos.

About Our Location: You may park for FREE on weekends in the Crown Center parking lot. There will be lots to sketch in Crown Center, but the Link to Union Station will be just around the corner from our meet up location. The heated cat walk will give you a great view as you cross over to Union Station, which is always spectacular. Due to the wide variety of sketching choices we will extend our standard time 30 minutes and regroup at 12:30 (same location) for a throw down, sharing our sketches, and a group photo. If you would like to stay for lunch, we will go to UnForked on level 1 which has a variety of food that will please everyone.

Important to Note: This will no doubt be a busy holiday weekend for shoppers. Please do not bring a chair, use their benches if you need to sit. If you go in to a business, please get permission to sketch . Be careful not to block the customers. We have permission to have our event there, and security will be aware what we are doing.

Who should attend? Any age. Any skill level. We're here to have fun, encourage others, and to celebrate individual styles!

What should you bring? Anything will do, many of our members use watercolor, pens, pencils/colored pencils, pastels, and paper that works with that specific medium. The challenge is to be mobile and travel light, you would be surprised about what you can accomplish while limiting your choices. If you are just starting out, student grade or discount brand is perfect.

Trade at the Art Share: a favorite at every meet-up, Artist Trading Cards are 2.5" x 3.5" (available pre-made at stores or make your own from paper you already have on hand).  They're useful in helping you to hone in on your subject, small enough to complete at least one during the sketch event (a real confidence booster), and a means for collecting art from fellow USkKCers.
