Her Flag | Dec 6 at 6pm | Mid-America Arts Alliance | Visit us in KC’s Crossroads Arts District for First Friday and see traveling national project Her Flag
Her Flag is a nationwide art and travel project created by artist Marilyn Artus to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment and the seventy-two-year-long nonviolent fight that kicked open voting for women in the United States. Artus is collaborating with a woman artist from each of the thirty-six states that ratified the 19th Amendment into law, creating an 18 x 26-foot flag.
We will exhibit the in-progress flag with eighteen of its stripes, as well as a new field of stars. For First Friday, we will also have original paintings from the artist who contributed imagery to the Kansas stripe, Jennifer Hudson, and pincushions made by artists at each of the locations where Artus does her stitching-together Her Flag performances.
This opening is supported in part by the City of Kansas City, Missouri the Neighborhood Tourist Development Fund.
