Return to the Classics: The Essential Adam Smith

Return to the Classics: The Essential Adam Smith

Presented by Rockhurst University at Massman Hall, room 241, Rockhurst University

Scotland-born Adam Smith (1723-90), hailed as the founding father of economics and credited as the founding father of capitalism, was the author of two published books: The Theory of Moral Sentiments (1759) and An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations (1776). Smith’s writings delved into psychological observations of human nature, morality, and economics that influenced peers such as Charles Darwin (1809-82) and brought him acclaim during his lifetime and beyond. The Essential Adam Smith, edited by Robert L Heilbroner and Laurence J. Malone, reduces Smith’s writings to their “essential core” and provides a brief introduction and overview of his life. Join us for an intimate discussion of this book over refreshments. To register visit rockhurst.edu/center-arts-letters. Parking is available in the north parking garage (52nd Street and Troost Avenue) and in lots accessed through the campus entrance (54th Street and Troost Avenue, rockhurst.edu/map).
