First Friday Featured Artist Linda Nickell at The ArtsKC Gallery

Presented by ArtsKC – Regional Arts Council at The ArtsKC Gallery

Artist Statement :

Inspired by the colors, shapes, lines and textures in nature, I develop many layers and surfaces within my work. Each added mark and paint stroke coupled with excavating back into the surface reveals the history of the piece. I enjoy finding hidden beauty in a landscape and employ abstraction to bring forth the essence of the scene. The process of working with oil and cold wax involves time and patience and allows me to create many transparent and opaque layers which I can manipulate with additive and subtractive techniques. Just as our life’s story takes time through the years to build, my paintings have a history and narrative of their own.  It is my hope that the art I create brings the viewer into a closer looking experience and succeeds in expressing the beauty, intrigue and depth in the world around us.
