BASIC SEWING FOR CHILDREN

BASIC SEWING FOR CHILDREN

Presented by Rightfully Sewn at Rightfully Sewn

Do you want an entry-level class on sewing and garment construction? Do you have a sewing machine but are uncertain how to use it?

Join us for a hands-on introductory course for ages 10 to 17 that will teach the foundational skills needed to construct simple garments. This class is perfect for the young aspiring sewist who has been curious to try sewing or the self-taught sewist who would like to increase their knowledge and technical skill set. Previous sewing experience is not necessary.

Only 10 places!

Students will work on Janome HD-3000 and School Mate 7330 straight-stitch home sewing machines and Janome and Babylock home sergers.

Students will:

Cut and sew a tote bag,
Learn sewing vocabulary, including sewing machine parts and apparel construction terminology;
Learn how to thread and operate a conventional sewing machine, including trouble-shooting common issues;
Receive instruction on how to read a commercial sewing pattern,
Learn basic techniques to create sewn products, including how to pin and cut fabric and order of operations for construction; and
Receive a complimentary Rightfully Sewn sewing pattern for a tote bag to continue sewing at home.

Basic sewing supplies will be provided. A shopping list will be provided.

This class will be taught by Rightfully Sewn Instructor Nina Littrell. She is a graduate of Kansas City Art Institute, where she studied textiles and garment construction. Nina is a Kansas City-based fashion designer who is interested in merging art and fashion.
