VIRTUAL - Virtual Happy Hour Q&A with Phil Grabsky, director of "In Search of Beethoven"

Presented by Goethe Pop Up Kansas City at Online/Virtual Space

Our Digital Film Haus is celebrating Beethoven’s 250th birthday with a series featuring various documentaries and discussions about LUDWIG VAN. Each film focuses on a different aspect of the composer’s work and life to explore influences and interpretations of his unforgettable music.

We are thrilled to welcome Phil Grabsky, director of In Search of Beethoven for a virtual Happy Hour Q&A. Mr. Grabsky will join us via Zoom from England for this discussion on Sunday, May 24th at 5:00 pm (CDT).

About Phil Grabsky

Phil Grabsky is a filmmaker who has won multiple awards for his directing, writing, producing, and cinematography. He and his company Seventh Art Productions are behind cinema films such as Muhammad Ali - Through the Eyes of the World, In Search of Beethoven, In Search of Mozart, and The Boy Mir - Ten Years in Afghanistan. Phil’s films have been a great success: in Australia, for example, both In Search of Mozart and In Search of Beethoven played in cinemas for months and entered the all-time top-grossing documentaries. His most recent series of art films is currently screened in 64 countries.

Among the many films Phil has directed in the past for television are multiple singles for Channel 4, ITV, the BBC, Discovery, A&E, PBS, and others, as well as major series such as I Caesar – the Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire. Seventh Art has also made six enormously popular history films with Monty Python’s Terry Jones, alongside being the world’s biggest producer of arts film for cinema and TV over the last 20 years.

Phil’s most recent music films are In Search of Haydn, In Search of Chopin and Concerto – A Beethoven Journey about world-famous pianist Leif Ove Andsnes & the five Beethoven piano concertos.

In 2009, Phil and his colleagues began to work on a new arts genre for the cinema: EXHIBITION ON SCREEN. This brings major art exhibitions – and the stories of both the galleries and the artists – to audiences worldwide.
