Backstitch with Kimberly Chambers

Backstitch with Kimberly Chambers

Presented by Bredin-Lee Gallery at Bredin-Lee Gallery

Artist Statement: Being raised in South Carolina meant a childhood of antiques, jockey lots, grandma's dolls and great-grandma's afghans. This most recently body of work focused on the craft tradition of embroidery. With it, there is a use of not only design and illustrative elements, but also texture. To achieve that surface quality I used the technique of water etching. My show "Backstitch" is a reference to sewing and embroidery, but also the use of that particular stitch. Backstitches are strengthening, and by reviewing our past stitches, like we do our own pasts, we learn things for the future. This process gives me purpose and the repetitive nature helps me to escape any troubling thoughts. We hope you will join us and support our resident artist, Kimberly at her final 323CLAY & Bredin-Lee Gallery event before she moves on.
