Presented by Charlotte Street at Online/Virtual Space

Originally scheduled for April 2020, Charlotte Street Foundation's Open Studios series is back as an online-only program series! Featuring over 15 studio residents of all practices from dance to painting, this Zoom series provides insight and reflection on how Charlotte Street Studio Residents have reacted (or not reacted) to the critical year of 2020.
The fourth episode of 2020 Open Studios features a Q&A discussion and studio visits between studio residents Andrew Ordonez and Craig Auge. This episode will also feature a contemporary dance performance composed and performed by Studio Resident Tristian Griffin.
The Q&A streams live over Zoom on Tuesday, December 8th at 6:30 PM. Attendees will receive a Zoom link upon RSVP confirmation.

About Andrew Ordonez (@andrewordonez on Instagram)
Lately, I have been creating work that focuses on the tension between conservation and erasure. I am interested in representing this tension through a series of artifact appearing objects made from concrete sculptures, material assemblage, and photo collage. Whimsically disguised as unearthed time capsules, the objects contain layers of information revealing anonymous narrative identities and histories. Among these histories, I have recently assembled a series of non-functioning traveling objects such as carry-on luggage, duffle suitcases, and designer handbags. Molded within the inverse of sewn fabrics and cardboard materials, these cement sculptures aim to personify the friction between labor and luxury. After the cement cures, I excavate its surface revealing distorted photographs, decals, and mementos. In addition to the sculptures, I alter and adhere the unearthed photographs for digital and physical collage, continuing to analyze the loss and longevity of material culture.

About Craig Auge (@craigdeppenauge on Instagram)
In my work I explore the relationships between material, shape, color, gesture, mark-making, site and self. I merge and flow between collage, alternative bookmaking, salvage assemblage, and impromptu public intervention. My job is to activate the materials of memory, divining new runes and visual emergency response. Ephemeral, formal explorations reflect through-lines of self, and potentially produce a collective deja-vu. Works exist as mementos, recordings, vestiges or totems. I am constantly zooming in and out of visual micro and macrocosms. Maximalist tendencies and minimalist desires are strategically negotiated with each action. I embrace the tension between blithe rhythms and decay, connected to a lineage of queered and coded abstract language. Visual poems point to the in-between places, inner spaces, and what is learned there. These are reflective chronicles, evidence of emotional expenditure.

About Tristian Griffin (@_tgryffindor on Instagram)
As a choreographer, every time I enter a studio to share a choreographic work, I find it my responsibility as an artist, humanitarian, and performer to share a world that fosters ideas, philosophies, and lessons that creatively exposes the issues in humanity as well as sharing the silent joys the world has to offer.
