Explore the modernity of the LatinX diaspora, through this narrative that is both reflective and responsive to migration, cultural roots, and identity.
MOVEMENT is a body of work that explores the invisibility of Mexican and Mexican Americans in contemporary society, and the complexities that linger in native individuals due to a hidden, obscured, or destroyed history caused by colonialism. The work focuses on notions such as displacement, replacement, longing, and assimilation. Through narrative based work I reflect on the phantasmal history of my family and the struggles, and sacrifices that come with understanding generational curses. My hope is to speak about the relationship trauma has with shaping memory, identity, and a sense of self both personally and culturally-Andrew Mcilvaine
