"Nia Hemmitt’s current series of work is about being unapologetically yourself. Even if it is scary or weird or makes other people uncomfortable. Nia makes these portraits of people wearing whatever they want to wear be it a prom dress or a Lolita dress, these collaborative shoots sole purpose is to make their model feel comfortable being themselves. Hemmitt, being apart of the alternative community their self, meet so many people who are able to express themselves fully through their clothing. With these images, Hemmitt is accenting a group of people who don’t get much visibility. The weirdos, people who don’t fit societal norms.
