Harlem Quartet With Aldo López-Gavilán

Harlem Quartet With Aldo López-Gavilán

Presented by Midwest Trust Center at Johnson County Community College at Midwest Trust Center at Johnson County Community College

For their third appearance on the JCCC Performing Arts Series, the Harlem Quartet is joined by Cuban piano prodigy Aldo López-Gavilán.

Hailed by the London Times as a “formidable virtuoso [who] assures a performance of amazing playing and individuality,” López-Gavilán is known for his mastery of both classical piano repertoire and the Afro-Cuban jazz tradition. His performances with the Harlem Quartet offer blends of classical music, jazz standards and López-Gavilán’s own compositions – many of which he arranged specifically for this collaboration.

López-Gavilán was born in Cuba to a family of internationally acclaimed classical musicians. His older brother Ilmar is a violinist and a founding member of the Harlem Quartet. The quartet’s mission is to advance diversity in classical music and to engage young and new audiences through the discovery and presentation of varied repertoire that includes works by minority composers.

  • The closest place to park is in either the East or West Midwest Trust Center parking garage. To get to the Midwest Trust Center garages, drive onto campus from the east College Boulevard entrance. The garages are two-level lots directly in front of (to the north of) the Midwest Trust Center.
