Edgar Meyer will play a rare solo performance that will expand musical horizons and reimagine traditional boundaries of the double bass. Meyer’s anticipated program includes his own arrangement of Bach’s Cello Suite No. 1, original bluegrass compositions, and his newest work that explores the sonic possibilities of the bass as a solo instrument. Hailed by The New Yorker as “the most remarkable virtuoso in the relatively unchronicled history of his instrument,” Edgar Meyer’s unparalleled technique and musicianship in combination with his gift for composition have brought him to greater stardom. His uniqueness in the field was recognized by both a MacArthur Fellowship and an Avery Fisher Prize; Meyer is the only bassist ever to receive either of these esteemed accolades.
