Divine | Sunday, June 12 at 3:00 PM | Village Presbyterian Church | The concert will include sections of the Orthodox All-Night Vigil service and the Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom and be a benefit concert for Reconciliation Services.
Icons, incense, and fervent faith are synonymous with the Orthodox Church. And for that reverent tradition some of the most exquisite and breathtaking music has been crafted. In collaboration with Father Justin Mathews, Te Deum will present sections of the Orthodox All-Night Vigil service and the Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom, integrating works of the most famous Orthodox composers. Fr. Justin will be singing the priest’s portion from the services, giving enhanced context to the great choral works. “Divine” offers a window into the solemnity of the faith, showcasing the beauty and depth of its spirituality, reinforced by the sounds, smells, and visual icons of the Orthodox Church. Composers being performed include Ukrainian composer Dmitri Bortnyansky, Benedict Sheehan, Arvo Paert. Nicholas Reeves, Rachmaninoff and Kalinnikov.
“Divine” will be a benefit concert for Reconciliation Services (founder of Thelma’s Kitchen), a nonprofit organization that strives to cultivate a community seeking reconciliation to transform Troost from a dividing line into a gathering place revealing the strength of all. A portion of every ticket sold will be donated to Reconciliation Services.
