Poster Exhibition: “Shaping the Past” | 8/5 – 9/11 | Goethe Pop Up Kansas City | Free exhibition with timed tickets
Goethe Pop Up Kansas City has been opening a new onsite exhibit!
Schedule a visit to view the Shaping the Past poster display, the closing event of a year-long project that explores our relationship to monuments and other places of remembrance. The exhibit casts a spotlight on the initiatives developed by artists, activists, and collectives from North America and Germany—all part of the Monument Lab Fellows Program. Their work reimagines society and addresses systemic racism, sexism, social and economic exclusion, and legacies of colonial and state violence. The installation will also highlight the many events organized last year with partners in Kansas City and further afield.
In 2020, Goethe Pop Up Kansas City invited Monument Lab fellows Alisha B. Wormsley and Patrick Weems to collaborate with artists and intellectuals from Kansas City and beyond on themes that are relevant to our community and the process of (re-)connecting with the past.
Shaping the Past is a partnership between the Goethe-Institut, Monument Lab, and the Federal Agency for Civic Education (Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung/bpb)
