Dorrance Dance

Presented by Harriman-Jewell Series at Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts

Tap is alive and well with Dorrance Dance! This innovative ensemble of tap dancers is named for its founder, Michelle Dorrance, a 2015 MacArthur Fellow and a person The New Yorker called “one of the most imaginative tap choreographers working today.” Dorrance Dance preserves the American tap dance legacy and honors its rebellious roots by creatively branching out in daring directions. A typical performance by Dorrance Dance is backed by a live band and blows open the possibilities of tap to evoke a variety of moods, from the poignant to the downright fun. The Washington Post says Michelle Dorrance “pays homage to tradition, yet she does everything differently, and she does everything very, very well.”
