ArtOberfest Film Screening: Exit Through the Gift Shop

ArtOberfest Film Screening: Exit Through the Gift Shop

Presented by Rockhurst University at Rockhurst University Arrupe Hall

Join us for a film that explores artmaking in the streets as part of Rockhurst’s ArtOberfest celebration of arts and humanities. This Academy Award-nominated documentary from 2010 is by amateur filmmaker Thierry Guetta and explores graffiti art as Guetta documents the work of anonymous street artists, including the very famous Banksy. The film contains footage of Banksy, Shephard Fairey (the artist who designed the 2008 Obama posters), Invader, and many of the world’s infamous graffiti artists at work and asks us to consider what is art and what is not and what might real (or not) in the film itself. A philosophical discussion of this film will be led by Robert Vigliotti, Ph.D., Rockhurst University associate professor of philosophy, immediately following this free screening.
