Robert Lugo and Emily Sall, February 17, 2022 • 3:30-4:30 p.m. CST, ONLINE Roberto Lugo Ceramic artist Roberto Lugo is also a social activist, spoken word poet and educator. Lugo's work draws hip-hop, history and politics into his pottery and 2D works. Born in Kensington, in Philadelphia, Lugo began his career as a graffiti artist before discovering ceramics. Lugo holds a BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute and an MFA from Penn State. He is an Assistant Professor of Art at the Tyler School of Art and Architecture in Philadelphia and is a 2019 recipient of the Rome Prize. Emily Sall Emily Sall is a painter whose studio practice and work seek to transform the perception of space, with references to architecture and plays on geometric abstraction. There is a visual play between 2D and 3D in her hard-edge paintings, mixed media assemblages, installations and murals. Emily received her BFA in painting from the Kansas City Art Institute in 2005. Her work has been shown both locally and nationally. In 2007, Emily was awarded the Charlotte Street Foundation’s Visual Artist Fellowship. Both artists have work in the Nerman Museum’s exhibition Evocations · Celebrating the Museum's Collection, on view now through March 13, 2022.
