Safekeeping
What does it mean to be seen?
Portraiture is often viewed within the history of European portrait painting; this comparative nature of the canon automatically declares all portraiture featuring a BIPOC subject as intentionally subversive–political– and challenging to the European standard. Safekeeping shows Logan Crompton and Kevin Hopkins as they redefine what it means to be perceived within not only the canon but also as complex individuals. This collaborative approach to self portraiture speaks to the diversity of aspects of self, whether that be through your own eyes or others’.
