KC Clay Guild Residency Exhibition: Jing Huang and Mathew Meunier

KC Clay Guild Residency Exhibition: Jing Huang and Mathew Meunier

Presented by Four Chapter Gallery and KC Clay Guild at Four Chapter Gallery

ARTIST TALK: June 3, 2022 at 6:00pm

This exhibition features two ceramic artists exploring the significance of the liminal space in their work and artistic voices, interpreting the term ‘liminal’ in different ways.

The study of the space and the feelings of dislocation between her past and present is central to Jing Huang’s ceramic sculpture.  By abstracting and reassembling her observations and memories, her work becomes the voice and imagination of her life outside her country.  Whether the scenery comes from the past or present, the East or the West, in the transitional space of her work both landscapes coexist.

Mathew Meunier’s functional work embraces the boundless space between idea and possibility.  Having recently translated long-held environmental sustainability concepts into a completely new body of work, the full scope of potential is yet to be reached.  His work is punctuated by textures and contrast born on the path between intention and promise.

The artists in Liminal demonstrate a diverse understanding of the positions between boundaries and share an experimental approach to clay materials and processes.
