Winterlude - Vine Street Rumble

Winterlude - Vine Street Rumble

Presented by Midwest Trust Center at Johnson County Community College at Midwest Trust Center at Johnson County Community College

The band exclusively performs the same outrageously exciting music that made Kansas City the place to be in the 1930s and ’40s, dedicated to taking the audience back to the wildly famous “jam sessions” and concert performances that literally changed the jazz world and influenced musicians from coast to coast and beyond.
The band personnel are Kansas City’s “top call” musicians, who love to faithfully recreate the KC jazz scene. Most of them have performed across the United States and around the world. Accurately performing the hot swing music of Count Basie, Jay McShann, Andy Kirk and the 12 Clouds of Joy, Harlan Leonard and His Rockets, Mary Lou Williams, Joe Turner, the world-famous boogie-woogie piano master Pete Johnson and others, Kansas City’s Vine Street Rumble takes audience members “Back in time, to 18th and Vine!” For more information visit Vine Street Rumble's website.
Kent Rausch, Director
A former music educator, Kent Rausch is active as a professional musician in the Kansas City area. He is Musical Director and founder of Kansas City’s Vine Street Rumble Jazz Orchestra, the only big band in the U.S. exclusively dedicated to honoring the legacy of the “golden era” of Kansas City Jazz and the incredible musicians who created it. He is also a founding member of the New Red Onion Jazz Babies, a traditional New Orleans-style jazz band that has performed in Kansas City since 1980. Rausch was arranger/drummer for the Kansas City Chiefs for 23 seasons and played drums for the NBA Kansas City Kings. Numerous local bands have performed his marching, concert and jazz band arrangements. His concert band composition, Flights Of Passage, was released by Wingert-Jones Publications in 2010.
Support provided by Peter Goulet.
