Veronica Sawyer, played by Emma Jacobson, is a senior at Westerberg High. She longs to be a part of the Heathers, the most popular (and cruel) clique in school. Veronica forges the clique's way out of detention, gaining entry to their rarified status. Veronica also catches the eye of the dark, mysterious new kid JD and together, they scheme and poison their way through Westerberg High.
With music, lyrics, and book by Laurence O'Keefe and Kevin Murphy "Heathers: The Musical" features a diverse cast of young, vibrant Kansas City actors. Faust founder Zach Faust directs the mayhem with music direction by Adee Dancy and choreography by Regina Lombardo. Faust is known for its focus on highlighting new Kansas City talent and presenting known pieces in a fresh and thoughtful way.
According to "Heathers" Director Zach Faust, "When "Heathers" was written in the 1980s, the ideas and themes at its core seemed comically absurd: what if the popular girls all had the same first name? What if the bad boy was legitimately evil and tried to blow up the high school? Sadly, the material is even more relevant today. "Theatre is a cathartic experience, and what better way to talk about society affecting teenagers than holding a mirror up to it? "Heathers" is dark and weird and is meant to make members of the audience feel uncomfortable. Hopefully you'll go out into the world and maybe - just maybe - make it just a little more beautiful after seeing it as produced at The Arts Asylum," added Korey Childs , Arts Asylum Artistic Director.
