June - August Exhibitions

Presented by Sherry Leedy Contemporary Art at Sherry Leedy Contemporary Art

Three new solo shows open the summer season at Sherry Leedy Contemporary Art.
Large and small pastel works on paper make up Andrew Watel’s exhibition, Things.  Anonymous, often singular, objects emerge from a deeply saturated, colorful, atmospheric, and fog-like space in his drawings/paintings.  In the process, they are transformed into something new, mysterious and beautiful, forming a world of their own.

The intimate paintings, Small Stories, by Tilly Woodward show us objects that seem so convincingly real that it is hard to believe that they are painted.  The objects chosen have personal significance to the artist but are laden with meaning familiar to us all.  They represent memories, the forces of nature, and the beauty of small things.

Between the Branches, by Claire McConaughy are paintings composed of fluid color and line.  More experiential than literal description, McConaughy’s paintings are poetic moments that capture the memory of the landscape, essence and form, paint and art history.

A curated continuation of Hung Liu:  Melodramas is also installed and features a  distillation and continuation of this epic remembrance of one of the most important artists of our time.   Examples of Liu’s signature works including paintings, mixed media, and tapestry, are included.
