John Divola Artist Talk | October 21, 6 p.m. | Atkins Auditorium
Join Senior Curator of Photography April Watson and artist John Divola for a lively conversation about Divola's conceptual use of photography throughout his long and distinguished career.
John Divola is a Los Angeles-based artist whose work spans over four decades. Since the late 1970s, Divola has integrated painting, sculpture, installation and performance as a means to explore the inherent tensions within photography, as it straddles representation, abstraction, and perception. Recently, the Nelson-Atkins included Divola’s work in the exhibition Art of Illusion: Photography and Perceptual Play (2021).
Divola’s work has been exhibited internationally, and included in numerous museum collections, including the Centre Pompidou, Paris; the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum; the J. Paul Getty Museum and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles; the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Museum of Modern Art, and The Whitney Museum of American Art, NY; the Art Institute of Chicago; the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; and The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City; among many others.
