Westport Center for the Arts’ 2022-23 Noontime Concert Series continues Oct. 14 with a free performance by the Shortleaf Band. The duet based in the Southern Missouri Ozarks performs traditional Ozarks music on a wide variety of instruments.
The noontime concerts are free (donations accepted) and held in the sanctuary at Westport Presbyterian Church, 201 Westport Road, Kansas City, MO 64111. Tenley Hansen and Michael Fraser have immersed themselves in the culture and traditional music of the “Scots Irish” who became the first to settle the region in the late 1800’s. They will be performing on a variety of stringed instruments including fiddle, guitar, mandolin, and others as they weave a musical tapestry showcasing traditional and contemporary music of Ozarks.
Covid Protocols: Westport Presbyterian Church requires masks at this time. Masks and hand sanitizer will be provided to those who need them. The Noontime Concerts previously were known as the Brown Bag series. However, following the pandemic, the name has been changed to Noontime Concerts and audience members are now asked not to bring a lunch as eating is not allowed inside the church. Audiences are, however, welcome to stay and visit with the performers from a distance after the concert.
Financial assistance for this project has been provided by the Missouri Arts Council, a state agency.
