Join us for an intimate experience featuring music of flamenco guitar and Arabic oud together with flamenco dance performed by Ensemble Ibérica. Ensemble Ibérica performs music from Ibéria (Spain and Portugal) and other areas of the world connected to the Iberian diaspora while educating the public about Ibérian cultural influence. This special event is inspired by works on view in the Greenlease Gallery’s temporary exhibition, “Geometric Aljamía: A Cultural Transliteration.” The six contemporary artists featured in this exhibition present works that reflect geometric patterns found in Islamic art and design. Aljamía is a medieval Spanish word that refers to Romance languages written in Arabic script. This transliteration contributed to the dissemination of the Arabic language and Islamic influences throughout the Iberian Peninsula and beyond.
