Mapping Missouri’s Black Towns & Settlements

Mapping Missouri’s Black Towns & Settlements

Presented by Missouri State Parks at Bruce R. Watkins Cultural Heritage Center

Missouri State Parks is hosting a presentation featuring Dr. Atyia Martin, Next Leadership Development, and Cymone Davis, Black Towns Municipal Management. Dr. Martin and Ms. Davis will be showcasing their Black Towns & Settlements Mapping Project, the first-ever online interactive map of communities incorporated or settled by African Americans.

Join us as Dr. Martin and Ms. Davis take us on a journey through historic Black towns and settlements in Missouri, exploring the origin story and vision of the mapping project, the counter-narratives, and ways to sustain and grow this effort.

An ASL interpreter will be available during the presentation. To request a special accommodation, call 816-759-7313, ext. 1162.
