Kansas City Baroque Consortium presents the second of a three-concert series “Phantasticus! Music for the Austrian Emperors.” July 21 at 7:30 pm. St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 40th and Main Street. Featuring music for the Austrian Holy Emperors.
In 2022, KCBC took audiences on a journey through music of the Enlightenment. This summer, instead of a flurry of travel, we are opting for a “staycation” in one of Europe’s most iconic cities: Vienna.
In the words of KCBC Artistic/Executive Director, Trilla Ray-Carter: “The 2023 Summer Series explores music that played vital roles in Habsburg Courts of the 17th and 18th centuries, from ‘preferred’ Italian music at the Imperial Court of Vienna to music for Austrian Holy Roman Emperors outside of Vienna, to the remarkable works of outliers – Bohemian court composers we rarely hear today.” This second concert of the series, "Phantasticus! Music for the Austrian Emperors,” will feature works including Fux, Biber and Schmeltzer, writing in the most free and unrestrained method of composing, bound to nothing, neither to any words nor to a melodic subject.
