Young Composers Concert

Presented by Englewood Arts at Englewood Arts

Young Composers to Perform Compositions

Five high school composers will perform their original compositions in a concert organized to showcase their talents.

The First Annual Young Composers Concert will be held at 3 pm Saturday, June 17 at the Englewood Arts. The concert is free and open to the public.

This first annual young composers concert is a joint project of the Music Arts Institute and Englewood Arts.

All five composers are studying composition at the Music Arts Institute, an Independence non-profit which provides music instruction and performance for area students.

The five young composers are Jessica Bushong, Josh Hemmingway, Bryson Gates, Drew Gerson and Adam LeBlanc.

“This is the first young composer's concert and I'm really excited to see how everything goes,” said Hemmingway, who is organizing the student composers and the program.

“Before, it was just an idea, but now, that idea is coming to life,” Hemingway added. “Every composer has their own special talents and we hope to show it off at Englewood Arts.”

Hemingway has composed a string ensemble titled “Night Fall.”

“The students at Music Arts Institute are extraordinarily talented and passionate about music,” said Ron Clemons, MAI executive director. “Mostly they perform the works of others. This concert shares the originality of their own imagination and the music they are creating.”

The compositions include a variety of musical styles.

The composers will receive a stipend for their composition which will be videotaped and recorded during the concert performance.

The Young Composers Concert will be an annual event every summer.
