Ying String Quartet with pianist Alon Goldstein and bassist Rachel Calin

Ying String Quartet with pianist Alon Goldstein and bassist Rachel Calin

Presented by Friends of Chamber Music at The Folly Theater

The Ying Quartet occupies a unique position in American quartets. As the first U.S. quartet comprised of four siblings, they have endeared themselves to the world, have enjoyed a remarkable career with their brilliant performances. With three family members remaining plus an outstanding first violinist, the Yings will be joined by pianist pianist Alon Goldstein and bassist Rachel Calin in a performance of Schubert’s beloved “Trout” Quintet and Mozart's Piano Concerto in A-major, arranged for sextet (pianist, string quartet, bassist) by Ignaz Lachner.

While the Friends regularly presents music from the First Viennese School — Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, etc. — this season we also dip our toes into the Second Viennese school with works by Schoenberg, Webern, and Berg (the Brentanos performs Webern and the Dover’s will play Schoenberg.) The Yings’ program includes Berg’s String Quartet, Op. 3, which will serve as a delightful palate cleanser flanked, as it will be, by Mozart and Schubert.
