The William Baker Festival Singers & Friends present a traditional concert of readings, carols and classics to celebrate the beauty and wonder of Christmas.
The William Baker Festival Singers joins with Organist John Schaefer, and the Kansas City Kansas All-City Children's Chorus under the direction of Donna Johnson, in the 26th annual Candlelight, Carols & Cathedral concert of sacred readings, treasured classics, and carols in traditional forms for all to sing. Called "the alternative to alternative Christmas concerts." Candlelight, Carols & Cathedral is a festive celebration of the traditions of Christmas that have blessed us all our lives. Musical highlights include the World Premier of Composer in Residence Sean Sweeden's "In the Beginning," F. Melius Christiansen's "Wake, Awake for Night is Flying," Maurice Durufle's "Tota pulchra est," Franz Biebl's "Ave Maria" sung by the Men of the Festival Singers, Ed Frazier Davis' "O Magnum Mysterium," Rene Clausen's "Seek the Lord," Ariel Ramirez's "Gloria Dios," Eriks Esenvald's "Stars," Jonathan Rathbone's "The Oxen," and culminating in Charles Forsberg's "The Exaltation of Christ." Familiar carols, including "O Come, All Ye Faithful,” “Hark the Herald Angels Sing,” “Angels We Have Heard On High,” and others will be sung by all.
