The 20th anniversary year of “Modern Night” at the Gem, an adjudicated choreographers showcase presented by City in Motion Dance Theater
City in Motion Dance Theater is pleased to present the 20th anniversary year of “Modern Night" at the Gem on Saturday, February 3, 2024. This performance facilitates growth in our dance community by raising the level of excellence in our artistic network through access to professional productions for new and emerging artists. This showcase attracts contemporary choreographers from all across the United States to one of Kansas City's most historic stages. All selected choreographers have been reviewed by an independent adjudicator, Production Director and Artistic Co-Directors. Choreographer application open online through November 24 - Apply Here.
In celebration of the 20th year of Modern Night, City in Motion presents an opportunity for Young Choreographers (ages 13-17) to attend a 2-day workshop and apply to present work on the professional stages during this year's MNG. Register for YCS here!

NEW THIS YEAR! Young Choreographer Showcase at Modern Night at the Gem 2024
We invite emerging choreographers to join us in City in Motion’s first ever Young Choreographer Showcase. Those who wish to be a part of YCS will attend a weekend workshop, learning and honing choreographic skills. They will then be able to submit a piece of their own choreography to be adjudicated, and up to three pieces will be chosen to premier as an opening to Modern Night 2024. Register for YCS here!
General Information:YCS 2024 is open to emerging artists aged 13-17. Participants age is determined as of January 2024.YCS will accept submissions of solo choreography, choreographed and performed by the same individualIn order to submit a piece for adjudication, you must join us in the YCS workshop.Choreographers may use any music they choose, however it must be family friendly and only contain appropriate lyrics (or be instrumental).

Workshop Information:Workshop is on January 6th from 9:00 am to 4:30 pmThe day will include a contemporary class, 3 choreography workshops, and a Q&A.January 7th is an optional date where students can show any choreography they may have done for their solos and gain feedback. There will be an extra fee of $25 for participation on this day.
