ContraBanned 2017: An Uncensored Celebration of the Library

ContraBanned 2017: An Uncensored Celebration of the Library

Presented by Kansas City Public Library at Kansas City Public Library - Central Library

There was an alarming 17 percent increase in book censorship complaints in 2016. At a time of deep political division, ContraBanned highlights the importance of the freedom to access knowledge - unrestricted - and gives you the platform to Protect Your Shelves.

On September 30, help the Friends of the Library shout from the Central Library rooftop that the Library's free resources & programs empower people of all ages in KC to become lifelong learners and engaged citizens.

Your ContraBanned ticket includes: Entrance to the event in Kirk Hall and the rooftop (members gain early entrance at 6:30pm), hors d'oeuvres, and signature drinks provided by Tom's Town Distilling Co. and KC Bier Co.

ContraBanned features include: DJ Johnny Starke playing 1950s & '60s banned tunes from his killer vinyl collection; a Resist! (the urge to blink) Photo Booth; a Where's Waldo? Selfie Hunt; and Storytime Uncensored, an adult bedtime story featuring Burlesque Downtown Underground, Mesner Puppet Theater, a nightcap, and (of course) a bedtime snack.Unrestricted cocktail attire, but literary chic will never be banned.

{A huge thank you to our lead event sponsor The McMeel Family Foundation for believing in the Friends & for protecting KC's right to read!}
