Space Through Time

Space Through Time

Presented by Charlotte Street at La Esquina

Former CSF resident artist and current KcEMA treasurer Cody Kauhl's installation "I Am Moving Through A Room..." examines La Esquina through live video feeds and music creation. New music is created as participants move through the room, interacting with the sound and space.

“I Am Sitting In A Room…”
Saturday, November 4, 2017,
1:30 – 4:00 PM & 6:00 – 8:30 PM

This is a seminal electroacoustic piece by Alvin Lucier. In the original recording, Lucie read a short text which was recorded, played back in a room, and recorded repeatedly. This created a sonic effect of smoothing out the voice to the resonant frequencies of the room. Alvin Lucier had a stutter, and this smoothing effect of his speech was one major aspect to the original.

Christina Butera will give pre-concert talks at 1:30pm and 6pm. After the performance, there will be time for discussion with members of KcEMA

“We are Sitting In An Evolving Room…"
Saturday, November 11, 2017,
1:30 – 4:00 PM & 6:00 – 8:00 PM

This is a new work inspired by Alvin Lucier's original "I Am Sitting In A Room...". Just as Charlotte Street and KcEMA have evolved over the years, La Esquina itself is a living structure, changing over time. We Are Sitting In An Evolving Room... accentuates this evolution over a compressed time. A brand-new text created by Jeff Borowiec and John Chittum highlights the meaning of La Esquina. Tianna Morton lends her choreography and dance expertise to this immersive electroacoustic experience.

John Chittum will give pre-concert talks at 1:30 and 6pm. There will be time after for discussion with all participants
