Mission Project 2 (MP2) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2012 to enable capable adults with developmental or cognitive disabilities to live independently and safely in their own apartments, integrated into the general community with minimal support.  MP2 works toward a comprehensive vision: To establish and maintain support structures for its participants, to enable them to live independently in a safe environment with the opportunity to engage in meaningful work, social interaction with peers, educational opportunities, physical fitness activities and recreation.

The MP2 Arts Enrichment Program was started in January 2015, and enables the participants to express themselves in a variety of arts media and to exhibit their work in the greater Kansas City arts community.  This program invests in these adults with developmental or cognitive disabilities by creating access to discover the power of the arts by directly interacting with the arts community and making the visual arts a vital and regular part of their lifelong learning experience.

The first MP2 Art Show fundraiser was held in October 2014, and successive shows have included both MP2 participant artwork and local KC artists that have generously donated all or a portion of their artwork sales to the MP2 Arts Enrichment Program.  The annual art shows during First Friday in the Crossroads serve as catalysts to build appreciation for this diverse population within the greater Kansas City community, through exposure to their insights, personalities, and points of view as displayed in their artwork.
