The Wornall House was built in 1858 and is one of the few surviving Kansas City homes from the Civil War era. The house has been almost continuously owned by the Wornall family until the death of John Wornall Jr. in 1962. It was opened as Kansas City’s first house museum in 1972 and has been sharing stories of the past with visitors since then.
The Museum is set up as it might have been during the Civil War and includes authentic period furnishings, including those belonging to the Wornall family, as well as artifacts and information relating to the Battle of Westport.
