The Museum of Everyday is an investigation into the curated institutions we often trust. Through a variety of mediums including painting, sculpture, and ceramics Sophia Reed reimagines the museum experience, opening a space for the moments left out of art history.
Reed challenges the power and cycles that are normalized over time, stretching the limited lens of history, dominated by those with wealth and means in order to provide a more accessible image. Her work challenges tradition— blurring the lines between what is and what could be pulling apart the past and imposing the present. Reed gives the viewer a glimpse into the everyday and the easily forgotten.
The exhibition reframes and reconstructs history through contemporary eyes, outside of a traditional gallery space to provide a relaxed atmosphere. Reed invites us into a different museum, one with furnished rooms and painted walls in order to see beyond status, making room for the everyday mundane that so many of us know all too well.
