Bowman, a resident of Overland Park, Kan., is an oil painter who focuses on abstracted botanical environments. Bowman grew up surrounded by the Flint Hills in Kansas and remembers walks through the Konza Prairie discovering different species of plants. The natural forms made by native prairie life are what initially inspired her abstract compositions.
“The improvisational quality of my painting stems from responses to organic compounds found in nature,” Bowman said. “These forms are derived from overgrown, uncultivated areas of the forest floor. Gestural shapes and lush color promote analysis over time in these richly dense compositions.”
Bowman earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in studio art with a concentration in painting from Kansas State University in 2017. She currently teaches art classes at the Johnson County Arts and Heritage Center in Overland Park. In March, Bowman received a second place award at the Women in the Arts exhibition in North Kansas City, Mo. For more information about Bowman, visit amaranthineartist.com/.
