Calan Comes to Kansas City

The award-winning band Calan, hailing from Cymru, Wales, brings the island’s traditional music to the Olathe Indian Creek Library, featuring accordion, fiddles, pipes and harp, as well as clogging.

Due to a computer crash that caused visa problems, two members of Calan once shared a detainment cell at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport with a death metal band from Estonia. They followed that experience by performing alongside Sting at the Royal Albert Hall as part of the 50th birthday celebration of famed opera singer, Sir Bryn Terfel Jones.   • "Apparition" was inspired by the diaries of Welsh clergyman Edward Jones, who wrote about how metal-working brought about the disappearance of the fairy-folk in Wales.
