I’m So Glad: Kansas City and The Roots of Black Gospel Music

Come explore the untold story of Black gospel music in Kansas City and Kansas in a new documentary film. Then join a discussion with filmmakers Paul Wenske, Nancy Meis and Chris Wenske, and internationally recognized gospel music conductor Isaac S. Cates, who narrates the film. Kansas City is known for its jazz and blues. But the same forces that shaped those American art forms also led to Black Gospel music. The film features dozens of gospel artists, historians and musicologists to show how the region’s gospel pioneers played key roles in bringing African American musical traditions into the nation’s larger culture.

Doors open at 4 p.m. The film is in two parts, covering early history and then modern history – with an intermission. The Q&A will follow the film.
