KC Fringe Presents: The Mammy Project: The Untold History of Nancy Green

International performer Michelle Matlock, brings her hit show The Mammy Project: Untold History of Nancy Green to KC Fringe. Through original music, circus, storytelling and Michelle, weaves the story of her personal experience in the performance industry, the life story of Nancy Green (the first African-American woman hired to play the part of “Aunt Jemima”) and an exploration of the icon of the “Mammy” in this funny, and thought provoking performance. The Mammy Project transforms an oppressive stereotype into a celebration of the power we gain from knowing and understanding our history.
